A bit about nasturtiums

An amazing flower - Nasturtium can conquer your imagination. The birthplace of nasturtium is Central and South America. Once this flower was brought to Russia from Holland, and now, Nasturtium adorns flowerbeds, gardens, and personal plots.

Flowers can be double, simple, semi-double, depending on the type of plant, of which there are more than 90.

Nasturtium flowers are presented in the form of bouquets and are even eaten.

Nasturtium is a perennial plant for the southern regions, and an annual plant in the Russian climate. Since the form of nasturtium is similar to a liana, it is used to decorate fences, walls, sidewalks, porches and arbors. Nasturtium inspires poets and artists to work with its delicate, fragrant flowering.

Useful properties of the plant

If you list the medicinal properties of this unique flower, you can get lost among various useful effects: infusion and decoctions of nasturtium treat bronchitis, kidneys, sclerosis, cholelithiasis. Nasturtium kills pathogenic microbes, improves metabolic processes in the body, immunity. Essential oils of nasturtium normalize blood circulation in the veins.

Even at your dacha, nasturtium will protect the planting of vegetables of tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, potatoes, beans, pumpkins from pests: whiteflies, aphids, Colorado potato beetles and cabbage whites. Nasturtium nectar will attract beneficial insects to the garden. In addition, nasturtium has a good effect on the soil.

Planting and caring for nasturtiums

Planting of this beautiful plant is possible by sowing in spring in open ground, as well as through seedlings and by cuttings.

Mid-May is a great time to plant nasturtium. Sufficiently large seeds of nasturtium are laid in holes about 20 mm deep, between which a distance of 0.25-0.3 m is observed. 3 or 4 seeds are placed in a hole. Watered nasturtium with warm water. After 7-15 days, the first seedlings germinate.

If you grow nasturtium through seedlings, the main thing is to provide it with good lighting and sow seeds in peat pots, so that immediately with them transplant the plant into the open ground. After planting in open ground, nasturtium should be systematically abundantly watered. In the future, the frequency of irrigation is reduced.

Proper care of nasturtium involves the introduction of natural, organic fertilizers into the soil. Remember that you can not fertilize nasturtium with nitrogen, as in this case, leaf growth is activated despite the development of buds. To ensure healthy flowering buds, you need to make special fertilizers. And so that the soil and plants are healthy - use only environmentally friendly fertilizers!

The complex organic-mineral fertilizer “Reasil®” for flowering plants containing natural humic acids will increase the brightness of flowers, stimulate the active development of leaves and buds, enhance photosynthesis and respiration. For a better formation of fruits and seeds, the Florist “Bud” preparation is a perfect solution - it is a special liquid fertilizer with macro- and microelements for abundant flowering of ornamental plants.

Let nasturtium decorate your garden with beautiful inflorescences of bright, healthy, healing flowers!

We wish you a pleasant harvest day!
