Strawberries - an incredibly tasty and healthy berry!

There are plenty of useful properties for strawberries: folic acid prevents the development of vascular diseases, calcium and magnesium ions strengthen bones and tissues, the antioxidant fisetin improves memory, vitamin C lowers cholesterol and prevents the development of hypertension, fruit acids reduce weight, and essential oils and trace elements: copper , manganese, chromium, acids (malic, citric, salicylic) collectively rejuvenate our body!

Strawberry or wild strawberry? What is the difference?

In Russia, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich began to grow strawberries in the 17th century in his garden in Izmailovo near Moscow.

You have probably heard that wild strawberries and wild strawberries are different types of berries of the Rosaceae family. We collect wild strawberries in the forest and fields, and in the garden we grow musky wild strawberries (they call it Strawberries for its tuberous fruits).

Strawberries bloom in May-June, and the fruits ripen in June-July.

Early spring is the time to take care of a good strawberry crop!

Caring for strawberry seedlings in the spring includes several stages:

Soil cleansing

Remove last year's dry leaves from the garden as soon as the snow melts. Remove all plant debris from last year's strawberry crop so that they do not form fungal pathogens. Earth needs to be cleaned from last year's mulch to ensure access of the sun and air to the root system. If you decide to transplant strawberries to a new place, do it in the first decade of April.

Soil loosening

Loosen the row-spacing to a depth of 10 cm. This is important to do as soon as the soil in the garden dries in the spring. If this is not done, then the soil compacted after winter will impede the flow of oxygen to the root system of strawberries. Since it is located on the ground superficially, loosening the earth near the roots is impossible. If you see that the root has crawled out from under the ground, sprinkle this bush, and if it is, on the contrary, buried, then release it.

Strawberry dressing

Simultaneously with loosening the soil, add humic Soil Improver from Leonardite to the ground. Humic acids will improve the structure of the soil, saturate the earth with nutrients and restore its fertility, which will affect the health and high yield of strawberries.

It is also possible surface application without incorporation into the soil.

Mulching

In early spring and late autumn, you need to mulch the beds to protect the strawberries from contact with the ground. Mulch retains moisture in the soil and inhibits the growth of weeds, prevents the formation of rot on the fruits. Materials for mulching: film (in an annual culture), sawdust, chopped straw, dry grass, compost, leaf humus, pine needles. The layer of mulch is 4-7 cm.

Watering

Strawberry is demanding for proper watering: watering by sprinkling promotes leaf growth; drip irrigation is ideal for moisturizing strawberry growth points. Before flowering strawberries (especially in hot and dry weather), the garden should be carefully shed. Further irrigation is carried out depending on the frequency of rains. It is impossible to overflow strawberries in any case, otherwise the fruits will deteriorate.

These spring procedures increase strawberry yield. Very soon, strawberries will bloom, framing the garden with beautiful, fragrant fruits!
