Indoor flowers instead of a Christmas tree

By the New Year holidays, lots of live Christmas trees grown specifically for interior decoration are on sale. Also in the shop windows you can find heat-loving indoor plants from the coniferous family - araucaria and dwarf cypress. However, organizing a winter for such pets in the apartment is not easy, because these plants need high humidity and low temperature.

But buying new flowers for the new year is not necessary at all, take a look at the plants of your home. It is quite possible to show your creative abilities and dress up as a Christmas tree, for example, Benjamin's ficus. The elastic branches of this indoor tree can easily withstand garlands, tinsel and small toys made of plastic or polystyrene.

Decorative deciduous houseplants, such as coleus, croton, hypoesthes, calathea, fittonia, arrowroot and others, are so self-sufficient that they do not need to be hung with tinsel. Such flowers themselves can become a bright center of the composition of fir branches, decorated with discreet toys and candles.

High prickly cacti, milkweeds and prickly pears in this period become relatives of no less prickly Christmas trees, and they are also often dressed in sparkling clothes by some gardeners. Indeed, the resemblance of some succulents with Christmas trees is quite easy to beat, adding bright plastic berries, toys imitating icicles to their crown, and powdered with dry artificial snow.

Note: wet aerosol “snow”, sold in spray cans, is better not to apply to living room colors. As you remember, the entire vegetative mass of plants is covered with pores, which well absorb everything that falls on their surface. The composition of these chemical sprays, at least, is not useful, and can interfere with the respiration process of plants or even lead to their death.

But even if gentle arrows barely appeared from the ground, this does not prevent the inclusion of primroses in the composition.

If on the eve of the holiday you purchased blooming bulbs, or your plantings bloomed ahead of schedule, keeping them at a low temperature will help to prolong their flowering. To do this, you can, for example, clean them overnight in a refrigerator or on a cool loggia (without freezing temperatures), and in the daytime - protect them from direct sunlight and not place them near heating appliances. Such a technique will allow the flowers not to bloom ahead of time and become the original decoration of the festive table.

Christmas decor from dry branches

No less stylish indoors and in the garden, decorations based on dry branches will look. For small bouquets, twisted branches of some willow varieties (Matsudana, Ural crimped) or Kontorta hazel are well suited, for more convincing they can be silver-plated with frost, covered with acrylic paint and sprinkled with artificial snow. It is appropriate to plant small decorative birds on winter branches, hang plastic icicles and add a little tinsel.

From large branches you can even create small "trees" that are decorated with a garland and toys. In order to thoroughly fix the knots in a pot intended for decorating the premises, you can fill the planter with alabaster branches installed in it. But it is important that the container does not have openings and is made of plastic, because plates made of brittle materials may crack during the setting process of gypsum.

The old pine branches are most convenient in this regard, since they are quite thick, have an interesting structure and, most importantly, do not leave debris, due to the absence, as a rule, of bark. Especially large branches can be mounted on the wall. Such a stylish decoration will be the highlight of the interior throughout the year, and on New Year's holidays on thick branches it is easy to hang charming glass lanterns with a burning small candle inside.

Pumpkin as the basis of New Year's compositions

The most beautiful and many-sided truly winter vegetable - pumpkin, is successfully used to decorate the interior as an independent bright element, or as a composition and material for various crafts.

The rounded shape of the fruit encourages the creation of funny snowmen from pumpkins. As you know, only a few varieties of this vegetable have a natural white color. Acrylic paints or spray paints will help to solve this problem. Pumpkins are easily interconnected with thin cloves or pieces of wire, carrot spouts and bead eyes can also be easily attached. Large fruits are more convenient to plant on a thin iron rod, which can be purchased at a hardware store.

Small decorative pumpkins of decorative varieties by the time of the New Year holidays are already completely dry, becoming light and completely empty inside. This property allows the use of these fruits as original Christmas toys and lanterns. Pumpkins can be painted in any color, painted with patterns, decorated with sequins, beads and sparkles.
