The shape of my pie is still different from the classical one, but I’m working on it, I’m thinking about repeating it over time with precision. The essence of this dish is this: in a puff or shortbread custard dough, the filling is laid in layers, covered with a lid of dough, a hole has been made for steam and, voila - everything goes to the oven. The ingredients of the filling are added ready-made, so it does not take much time to prepare an English pie with potatoes and meat.

Ingredients for English Pie with Potatoes and Meat
For the test:
- 300 g of wheat flour;
- 4 g of baking soda;
- 60 g butter;
- 1 chicken egg;
- 180 g of kefir;
- salt, sugar.
- 200 g of potatoes;
- 300 g of minced meat;
- 50 g mayonnaise;
- 100 g onions;
- 80 g of carrots;
- olive oil, salt, pepper.
- 1 egg yolk;
- 15 ml of milk.
A method of preparing an English pie with potatoes and meat
An English pie with potatoes and meat can be baked from puff pastry, but if there is no time to cook it, then ordinary soft kefir dough is suitable.
It is prepared simply: we mix kefir, eggs, melted butter, 1/2 teaspoon of fine salt and 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar. We mix the ingredients until smooth, gradually add wheat flour and soda. If the dough turned out liquid, add a little flour. We leave the finished dough at room temperature for 20 minutes.
While the dough is resting, we will prepare the filling for the English pie with potatoes and meat. Boil the potatoes in their skins, peel, pass through a potato press or rub on a fine grater. Fry carrots in oil or also cook in their skins.
Add mayonnaise and salt to the potato to taste, mix.
Minced meat is mixed with chopped onions, seasoned with salt and spices. In England, Indian spices are held in high esteem, so I recommend curry powder for meat.
In a pan, heat a tablespoon of olive oil, fry the minced meat for 5-6 minutes, stir, so that the meat is fried evenly.
Sprinkle flour on the desktop, roll the dough into a circle 1 cm thick, about 1.5 times the size of the mold.
We grease the form with olive oil, carefully place the dough.
At the bottom of the pie, put a layer of boiled potatoes with mayonnaise, then add boiled or fried carrots, distribute evenly.
Put the fried meat on the carrots. Do not add minced meat directly from the pan: it should not be hot, the meat needs to be slightly cooled.
Raise the edges of the dough, form a pie with a hole in the center for ventilation.
For glaze, mix raw egg yolk and a tablespoon of milk, grease the dough to get a golden crust when baking.
We make relief patterns with a fork so that the top does not seem boring.
We heat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius, bake an English pie with potatoes and meat for about 35 minutes until golden brown.
The essence of the English pie is that when you cut it, all layers of the filling are visible. Someday I’m going to prepare a multi-layer pie so that the section shows all the richness and variety of vegetables, meat and offal - so to speak, a classic recipe.
